The Mysteries of the Rosary

The Rosary is one of the most beloved and powerful prayers in Catholic tradition. Through its mysteries, the faithful meditate on the key events in the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. The Rosary is divided into four sets of mysteries: the joyful, sorrowful, glorious, and luminous mysteries.

Joyful Mysteries (Mondays and Saturdays)

1. The Annunciation of the Angel to Mary: The angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will be the mother of the Son of God.
   
2. The Visitation of Mary to Saint Elizabeth: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is expecting John the Baptist.
   
3. The Birth of Jesus: Jesus is born in a manger in Bethlehem, the incarnation of the Son of God into the world.
   
4. The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple: Mary and Joseph present the infant Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem.

Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesdays and Fridays)

2. The Flagellation of Jesus: Jesus is scourged before being crucified.
   
3. The Crowning with Thorns: Jesus receives a crown of thorns on His head as a mockery of His kingship.
   
4. Jesus Carries His Cross: Jesus carries His cross to Calvary.
   
5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus: Jesus is crucified and dies for the salvation of humanity.
